Project Description

This project was carried out in 2010 and involved the design, programing, testing and commissioning of the integration of a new 1MW, 600V, water-cooled diesel engine-generator set, which serves as the new black start machine, for the station services in the Power Plant for the City of Summerside’s Electric Utility. The controls allowed the generator to be synchronized and base-loaded with the rest of the Power Plant to export surplus generation.

Scope of Work

Produce the specification for a new 600V switchgear assembly which was pre-purchased by the City of Summerside Electric Utility.

Design of the new Genset No. 6 synchronizing and control system which was integrated into the 600V switchgear and the existing Power Plant SCADA system.
Develop circuit breaker settings for protection and coordination.
Produce the construction scope of work complete with detailed installation drawings which were tendered by the City of Summerside Electric. The successful contractor executed the installation of the new 600V switchgear and supplied an installed all power and control cables.
Engineering services included project management, construction technical assistance, testing, commissioning, SCADA system programming, training, preparation of as-built documentation.
