Project Description

Algonquin Power Tinker Substation and Transmission Systems Testing and Commissioning Program for the 100MVA intertie substation, three-circuit 69kV transmission line terminals and one tie to the 20MW hydro plant, Tinker Substation, Tinker, New Brunswick.

Project involved the development of a detailed Testing and Commissioning Program for the renovated/upgraded 100MVA Tinker Substation project, followed by staffing the testing and commissioning team and managing and carrying out the detailed field testing activities in connection with all primary and secondary electrical equipment, protective relays and SCADA systems from 138kV down to and including the lowest utilization voltages, followed by the preparation of a comprehensive testing and commissioning report and as-built documentation.

Scope of Work

The specific scope of the project included the following elements:

  • Coordinated meetings with EUS, Algonquin Power & Utilities and NB Power, to organize in general terms, the testing and commissioning program
  • Prepared a detailed testing and commissioning program for all electrical aspects of the project, including 60/80/120MVA, 138kV-69kV substation, three-circuit 69kV transmission line terminals and 20MW hydro plant tie circuit, and all associated power systems, protection, control, metering, and SCADA interfaces
  • As the testing and commissioning agent, provided testing and commissioning team and implemented a detailed electrical testing and commissioning and operational testing program for the substation and transmission line circuits.

The original Tinker Substation equipment/circuits were transferred to the renovated/upgraded substation equipment over the course of the testing and commissioning period. The renovated/updated Tinker Substation became fully operational in May 2017.
